Title: Windscreen for a Thesis anyone?
Post by: Paul Greenway on 03 April, 2012, 09:56:00 AM

On the way back from the GNW a great piece of aggregate flew of a tipper and unfortunately hit my screen causing a huge chip. It stayed as a chip for a while then grew legs which are continuing to grow and will inevitably mean a new screen is required. My insurers have asked me to source one a they say they are getting no joy. My excess on the screen is £250.00

Any ideas?

Pilkington would be the obvious choice I suppose although I would have expected your insurers to have contacted them. Still, it's worth trying them yourself. Call 01744 28882 or see http://www.pilkington.com/automotive+international/default1.htm (http://www.pilkington.com/automotive+international/default1.htm). They made a one-off screen for my Gamma; it's something they do as long as they have the mould available and they must have it for a Thesis.

Paul,
Sorry to hear of your spot of bad (expensive) luck; After I had an accident in my elefantino Rosso the Dealer from where I bought her, Van Dijk Schouton in Rotterdam ordered the parts for me, as Fiat UK reckoned they were having difficulty sourcing a front grille and seat belts with pre-tensioners.
Certainly worth a try if you have no luck with Pilkingtons.

Paul.
Same thing has happened to me I got a new one through Charlie at John Whalleys and had it fitted by the recommended local fitter through the insurance. I suspect it is not cheap!

Not cheap at all, you'd never have guessed no one stocks them (& what a faf) so I ordered it through Mangoletsi- should be here next week, supplied & fitted for £580.65 arghh!

Turns out that on my insurance policy as part of the company fleet and whilst seemingly great value at £850 per year (fully comp unlimited business mileage) there is a condition that as my car is a non standard UK vehicle my excess on any claim including the windscreen is £500.00 (would have "only" been £250.00 on any UK spec car).

Don't tell the missus!
