I used to have a 1927 Austin 7 with a gravity fed tank in the same position but it was about a 1/4 of the size of that one! Brian 8227 8) [/quote]All standard augusta/ belna saloons have this type of tank Brian, only the chassis / cabriolets had under floor tanks at the rear of the car,this is why we think its a chopped saloon, it doesn't really worry me , my philosophy is if the car gets hit that hard to burst the tank i doubt i'd have survived anyway (especially with no seat belts) ::) realistically it would have been far better to have a rear mounted tank origionally but the augusta does have a few stupid designs mainly its cylinder head ;) Title: Re: Strange Augusta for Sale Post by: Sliding Pillar on 16 August, 2011, 05:46:26 PM The Augusta is a cut down saloon, it has been for sale for a while, at one auction they actually described it as by Pinin Farina, which it obviuosly isn't! The Aurelia Brian refers to is a B50 Vignale, there were 3 cars built in the same style, although in one advert for the car it is described as unique. Caveat emptor!

It gets a lot of petrol tucked away in an otherwise useless space, provides infallible gravity feed to the carburetter and a direct mechanical shaft drive to the gauge on the dashboard immediately behind. Scuttle tanks tanks were fairly common in the 1920s. The Augusta does sensibly put the filler under the bonnet whereas the very sporting AC had the filler in the dashboard in front of the passenger, which meant that a casual attendant might deposit a pint or so of petrol in her lap.
