Title: National Weekend and AGM
Post by: stuwilson128 on 08 March, 2011, 05:47:37 PM
The National Weekend & AGM will be held at Cheltenham Chase Hotel from 29th to 31st July. Just off Junction 11a of the M5, at Brockworth, Gloucestershire.

The information about filling in the AGM booking form on page 12 of the currect Viva Lancia is interesting, but shouldn't it have been accompanied by the form itself?
I was pleased to see that the Driving Tests have been reinstated, but sorry that the date clashes with the VSCC's Mallory Park race meeting, which, by tradition is held the day after the Lambda Dinner. I guess that not many Lambdas will make it down to Reading. Many of us will be going to Mallory Park.
Regards, John

The lack of a booking form puzzled me also & the clash of the Driving Tests with the Cotswold Economy Drive means I shall not be able to do the Tests.

We have a huuuuuuuuuge field to park in if the weather is good, so all Lancias will be welcome. Of course, with the event being in the British "summer" we can expect a little rain (anyone remember Swindon in recent years?) in which case it's the integrales in the field and the 2-wheel drive cars in the car park!  :)

The national rally itself is on the Sunday. If you're planning to attend and would like food from the hotel, then I strongly recommend that you pre-book using the non-residential booking form. The catering is often stretched when lots of people turn up, so it makes things much smoother on all sides if the hotel is prepared as best as possible.

Bringing your membership card is not compulsory, but it will save you from beating off crowds of marshals bearing membership application forms.

If you have any questions, please drop me a line via e-mail. I won't post it here as I don't fancy another batch of spam, but it's surely fairly widely known by now? (And in my profile, too!)

Looking forward to seeing you all over the weekend.

Yes Harvey it was the rain at Swindon that convinced me that I had to get a new windscreen seal in my Appia - I'll see if it works when I do the Sliding Pillar in 3 weeks time!

Sorry for the annoying question but is it possible just to turn up on the Sunday without pre-booking?  I would love to bring the Fanalone along but as I have a young family I can often book something only to be told close to the date "oh we have a sponsored bike ride/birthday party/donkey derby/monkey wrestling/face painting/squirrel spotting" event on a particular day.  I am happy to fill in a form but dont want to book and then be a no show.  Keen to understand the protocol.

Many thanks

Jonathan

Yes - the more the merrier on the Sunday, so of course you can just turn up with no need to pre-book. The only thing it would be worth booking in advance for is the Sunday lunch, but even then, you will be able to buy tickets on the day direct from the hotel.

Look forward to seeing you and the Fanalone

Andy

I can't. It's a secret.

This will be formally announced in the papers that will arrive with issue 518 of Viva Lancia. You may be interested to know that the said issue is a little later than usual as a consequence of including these papers. Did I already mention that?

This club is clearly destined to go from strength to strength isn't it..  In case anyone is struggling apart from me, address is :-  1 Shurdington Road (A46),  Postal Code :- GL3 4PB -  turning is close to Toby Carvery. Closest M5 junction is 11a.

Peter,
You may well be meeting Chris at 14.00hrs on Saturday and that's none of my business, but in the interests of clarity for others, if you mean the LMC Meeting at Cheltenham Chase Hotel, that starts at 16.00hrs according to the March copy of VL.

I haven't got my formal notice to hand but I presume that says 16.00hrs too.
(If I'm wrong somebody please correct this).

Regards,
Martin.

A great weekend, great atmousphere, variety, good hotel, company, weather (well at least from midday Saturday), and I for one valued the more relaxed Sunday which is what Sundays are all about.

Congratulations to Andy and Harvey and team.

Tim : the ONE person I probably didn't speak to over the weekend ! I did like Sarah's cigarette holder on the evening meal but didn't make it over to say so , too dazzled by John's shirt I guess :)

I enjoyed it a lot , I whilst Sunday morning wasn't relaxing (because the WiFi connectiion kept dropping out - not my fault!) we did go through the database well enough to get everyhone going and appreciate some of the features.

Great weekend and well organised , the format worked for me + no queue for lunch too and I only had a 20 minute drive home :)

May I also add my congratulations to the team for such a well organised and enjoyable weekend. I was particularly impressed by the flexability provided enabling one to pick and choose the elements required which must have added significantly to the administrative workload.
There were two particular highlights for me:
    a) The after-dinner speech by Stuart Turner which I thought was priceless. I don't suppose anybody taped it so that it could be published in Viva Lancia? Or perhaps he could be asked for his notes and permission to publish?
    b) To win a concours award for my Aprilia--all be it by default!!! If there was an award for the scruffiest car to win a concours award I think I would be due that as well! So where were all those lovely Aprilias that were at Goodwood? Maybe I will see some of you at Prescott next Sunday for the VSCC hillclimb which I highly recommend.

Referring back to the award it is called the Reubin Lovell award. Does anybody know who he was and what he did in the club apart from donating a very nice award?

A big thanks and well done to the team of organisers who made the weekend so enjoyable, I thought the extra time we had on the Sunday would be enough, but it never is!
The hotel was very good indeed
Big thanks also to the others who made this happen and especially David Melluish for his contributions as usual, which sometimes are overlooked.

Big thanks to Harvey, Andy, Steve, David and co for a great AGM, nice quiz, excellent tour, lovely dinner and super speech with a splendid format which in my opinion works extremely well. What a selection of cars and each year the quality improves too. The venue was superb with an accessible location from all corners, perfect size, no queuing for meals, car parking was good and the field was an added bonus- thanks for arranging the weather too.

If I were to gripe and this definitely cannot be pointed at the organisers it was the lack of young folk i.e. children in attendance , nevertheless my boys had a great time regardless but would have enjoyed it further still had other kids attended as they did in Shrewsbury in 2009. This is not my real issue here, what is is the negative attitude by a small minority of some members (The usual suspects who know who they are) towards us as a family bringing children to such an event where their ignorance and body language was all too evident.

But this will not deter us attending further AGM's as the majority of folk are most welcoming and we have to remember that children need to be encouraged as like it or not they will be the future of the club, so please, please can we bear this in mind, it is my 17th AGM out of the 24 years I have been a club member and as a family we hope to attend many many more.

That's it, gripe over thanks once again for an otherwise super event.

First time I have attended the AGM in many years, I was only there from 1.00pm onwads but still saw and spoke to plenty. I would though echo the comments regarding children.

We would just like to add our thanks to Harvey, Andy and EVERYONE involved in organising a great weekend, it was one of the most enjoyable we have attended.

Thought the changes worked very well, from the quiz on Friday evening (not just because our team won!) the Saturday AGM and the more relaxing Sunday, even after helping on the gate in the morning we had plenty of time to socialise and have a leisurely lunch. The
'staggered' lunch timings worked a treat .

Getting Stuart Turner as guest speaker was inspired.....hilarious ,the hotel ,staff and facilities were all excellent.

Well done again

Steve, Margaret and Emma

Must agree, new Saturday AGM format worked well and we had a good number of members attending! Fine entry for the concours with a few different names among the winners and a generally very high standard of all models.  Good to see Hugh Ross (well into his eighties) and his unique Lambda saloon.  Hotel excellent, location good, well done Andy and all your team.  Peter Gerrish.

Many thanks to all the organisers for your obvious hard work for making the event run so smoothly,
and thank you to everyone who made Steve and I feel so welcome as it was our first AGM.

Could I just remind everyone of the Beta Meet event this weekend. Meeting at Bowood House (SN11 0LZ) at 10am
Saturday 6th August and then a Treasure Hunt (Short Distance around Silbury Hill), and a BBQ after at Andy's. All details were posted by Tony
in June under Events 2011. (Beta Meet). Any interest please feel free to contact me on elmtreehomes@hotmail.co.uk

Just returned myself as we followed up the National Weekend with a weeks camping in Wiltshire with the Beta. Ran perfectly for over 700 miles in the week except a strange hiccup in the carpark of the wildfowl centre on the Saturday run, whereby the (mechanical) fuel pump seemed to fail for several minutes. It was roaring hot so I assume it was some sort of vapour lock in the line.

I thought hard about staying on for the Betameet, we passed Bowood several times, but it would be starting to be a bit of a busman's holiday even for me (not to mention the kids). Hope the superb weather continues for tommorrow.

Well done to the National Weekend team for such a great start to the holiday!

Before everyone forgets about the weekend and the AGM, let me repeat the message I put in the members only section, which seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

My post was:

I am sorry I didn’t manage to get there. I had decided to leave very early and take part on Saturday, but at the last minute events intervened….

It sounds like the national rally and all the social bits were good fun and much appreciated. The after-dinner speaker must have been great – any chance of sharing some of this on the forum?

Any news of the AGM itself? How are membership numbers holding up? What is the current position with the book?

Well done the organisers, sorry I missed it,

Colin

Hi Colin,
Some 'best guess' answers but not official in any way:
- I don't think we can publish any of the material from the after dinner speaker (if that is what you meant) - but he was great.
- No news of membership numbers at the meeting
- Book was reported as basically done - but needs final proof reading and that sort of thing

Thanks Steve. Any news on a new Register of Members and their Cars, printed or otherwise?

Colin

There was discussion.  Its on its way, and it will be printed.  Doing such things is considerably more problematic than it was 10-12 years ago, though, and there was a sense in the meeting that over time, and possibly in realtively short order, technology may render printed lists both unecessary and a waste of the club's limited resources.  Having said that, there is still concern that moving to electronic distribution, on CD or online, may tend to disenfranchise some members.

There is a new 'Library' tab on the Online Database that links through to an Online Library of stuff uploaded by Chris H and generated by from the Online Database. This includes lists of members and cars where members have chosen to put in those details. Pretty easy to use and I'll do a forthcoming article in VL! soon.

Belated I know but only just back from France having travelled over on the Sunday evening of the National Rally weekend and the internet connection where we are is abysmal.

Wanted to add heartfelt thanks to Andy, Harvey and the rest of the team for a splendid event. Excellent hotel, very good food, great Saturday run (thanks John Millham for the company), hugely enjoyable gala dinner (loved the dressing up bit!) very relaxed Sunday and so many enthusiastic Lancisti to talk with. In short, a blast from start to finish. Thank you all very, very much. Oh, and the AGM worked well too.

Robin.
