Title: AGM gala dinner
Post by: Harvey on 26 February, 2011, 02:14:17 PM
I've just sorted my period clothing for the gala dinner and am so excited I had to tell someone. So now I've told you all. :)

I should imagine that it wasn't too difficult, I mean opening a wardrobe door is quite a simple task...........

Harvey,

I don’t doubt your period costume for the Gala Dinner will be wonderful, but is there more to tempt us to sign up for the dinner?

In previous years the LMC has paid for after-dinner speakers to enrich the gala dinner experience – with speakers such as Gianni Tonti, John Davenport (?), the originator of the Trevi Bimotore and others (Stirling Moss?). Sadly for me, as a Sunday-only attendee, they have passed me by and I have always thought I have missed out on something.

Is there anything like this planned for this year that might tempt me and others to book for the dinner and share the experience?

Colin, the Committee always invites an after-dinner speaker of some repute, so apart from the dinner itself and despite my attire, it's very worthwhile attending.

Oi! I'll have you know my wardrobe contains contemporary fashion from the early 90s all the way through to the late 90s, and before today nothing from the 70s.

What' s the difference between a dinner and a 'gala' dinner please?

The term 'Gala' when it is applied to pies means that it is a long and loaf shaped pork pie with a line of hard boiled eggs down the middle. Might it be the same for the gala dinner, with the extra ingredient being the guest speaker?

It's bigger, grander and special.  And probably contains boiled eggs...
