Title: series3 Thema Turbo- Exhaust Manifold
Post by: murf on 27 January, 2011, 11:41:33 PM
I've just been told by the garage that what I thought was a loose manifold which has been 'blowing' for some time is in fact a hairline crack in the casting.Does anyone have a spare that they would be prepared to part with? Regards, Murf.

Pete, I'll pray that someone has, as even if you can get one new the cost is horrendous.

Is it not repairable?

Robin.

Hi Robin, The garage are not willing to try welding it (they say it will distort) so I'm waiting until the car is returned next week and will take it to someone I know locally who has a more rustic approach to these things.
I would however still like to get hold of a sound manifold if there is one to be had.
Regards, Murf

I've been informed by a man who knows about these things that series 2 and 3 turbo exhaust manifolds are the same animal. As a result I'm now hoping for a deluge of offers from people with shed loads of them.

Hi Pete,

Fire a request into Dave Abbett of the TDC. He should be around today and Wed morning. I think that he's planning a trip to our big barn store this month. We should have some manifolds still attached to engines.

They just don't want to do it. It's not that difficult to a half decent welder.

Yep, I agree. The guys I use seem to be able to weld anything.

Robin.

Thanks Mike, I now have Dave Abbett on the case and he is going to check out the TDC stock situation for me and report back. However I'm probably going to have to do my forthcoming trip with it the way it is unless I can persuade my local man to have a go at welding it next weekend. He is usually up for a challenge and over the years he has got me out of trouble with an assortment of vehicles on many occasions so I have to remain optimistic.
I will keep you all posted, regards Murf.
