Title: Goodwood Track Day
Post by: bruciebonuz on 21 December, 2010, 11:09:19 AM
As last year's event was so great and as it would be nice to have it to look forward to - is there a confirmed date for this next year?  I really hope its going ahead - I would happily pay £20 or so more than last year if it means the event goes ahead.

The Club is still doing a track day at Goodwood.

The Club has been contact by Goodwood with a provisional date. Until it is confirmed we cannot release the date. However the provisional date was at the same time of the year as this year.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Simon Davis

Any possibility to put this in the LMC Diary??

I understand LMC are also celebrating 75 years of Aprilia on the same date and venue. This gives me a big dilema having just got into Aprilias and also having fettled my HF1600!!

That is right Tim, as you will now know having seen my flyer to all Aprilia owners, I have suggested that we use the oportunity of the Goodwood track day to assemble as many Aprilias as we can muster for an informal get-together and a parade lap or two around the circuit. I have positive confirmation for 8 cars so far and expect several more. Hopefully yours will be one of them.

I have misplaced my form, so will download from the link above...

I have two questions though:

1.  Are there still places available?
2.  Will the Lancisti be offended if I go round in my Barchetta (as my Fulvia is mid-restoration at present)

I, for one, will be outraged and will be picketing the entrance, complete with brazier and hi-viz vest. :)

You can do that : I shall be asking to be a passenger :)

Harvey.

I am not convinced that those attending Goodwood are ready for you standing at the entrance wearing a bra.  However, whatever floats your boat.

Unless of course I have misunderstood ...........

so can the humble fiat come then despite Harvey's objection?

Yes - I'd reason it's a track day organised by the LMC for its members. Whenever I've attended, no-one's been sniffy about the cars on the track. Indeed, the yellow Fiat HGT sticks in my memory as it was just about the only thing I passed in my Dedra...!

You also passed Brian's Delta I recall :)

Only when he was down to 2 cylinders, so it doesn't really count.

I need to check whether I have the girls that weekend, but if not, I intend to pop down. I'll not be in the Gamma, though.

"Only when he was down to 2 cylinders, so it doesn't really count"

I was being economical with the truth to make you look like a demon driver, but if we're going to be whiter than white then we have to admit that Brian was 4 cylinders down to be fair (no fuel getting through), and THEN you passed him.  ;D

Mark,

I've sorted out the fuel flow issue on the Delta Turbo with a new fuel pump. Fiat wanted over a hundred pounds for one - but believe it or not the Landrover uses the same pump! - so £25 on ebay - problem sorted! This year the car will be present as perhaps the world's only Delta Breadvan - (Ferrari and 1960's Le Mans fans will know what I mean) as it now has a superlightweight aluminium and lexan  hatch back.

Will your lovely Barchetta be welcome - you bet it will!!! - I've even invited a Porsche as I really need to get the numbers up to keep the event going. So come on all - this is going to be a great day, both the track day as usual plus the bonus of a group of Aprilias circulating - this was the car that Lord "Freddie" March used to inspect the old wartime "peri track" with Wing Commander Tony Gage to see if it could be used for motor racing. Entry form attached !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any progress from the club on electronic payment possibilities for the event?

I have a friend who would probably love to attend and take his Ferrari 550 round the track if it helps with numbers!  He is a true classic car afficionado owning a couple of Alfa Giulia Supers (he may take one of those instead)....

Goodwood Stop Press!!!
Both a B24 Spyder and a Hyena are now entered and the day will feature demonstration laps by a dozen or so Aprilias celebrating their 75th birthday. So come on guys – there are still a few places available so get you entries in.

We would of course love to see either a Ferrari or an Alfa- do I need to send him an entry form?

Brian Mills

p.s. -we now have a B24 Spider, a Hyena and a Shelby Daytona Cobra entered!

What a view !!

Back in the foreground I'm assuming the "string" is for remote operation of a blind - but what are the two items peeking though oval cutouts?

My first ever trackday and a whole lot of fun.  My Delta seems to have survived too which is a relief.  :)

A big thanks to everybody involved and yes, can't wait 'til next year.

Yes, a brilliant day all round, and huge thanks to Brian and all who organised and ran it. Apologies for not bringing the intended Fulvia HF, but I had a fine time with my Peugeot 205 GTI - the first time I've had a proper track session with it in the seven years I've owned it. At least its Speedline wheels are Italian.

Had a great time on Saturday as did my son. It was the first time he's been big enough to be a passenger despite having raced karts for past 3 years

What lovely pictures.  Was SOOO looking forward to the day but got behind with work.  Anthony Hussey's Aurelia with all the bug spats on the front.  Is that the electric Rolls?  The Bentley convertable cutting it very fine on the chicanne.  Nice to see Aprilias at speed in colour to contrast with Colin Marr's black and white collection.  The car that jumped out was the Thema - time was they'd be a host of them on track and I can't remember the last time I saw one.

Anthony Hussey was pointing out how good his driving was as he'd managed to get every bug he'd aimed for on the way down ..... ;)

Yes, I agree with everyone! It was a great day and merits a huge tribute to Ben Courage for arranging all the Aprilias (each of which deserves a write-up on its own), and to Brain Mills and others for the track-day.

I enjoyed talking with old friends and looking at cars other than my own. If only to reassure David Laver that Aprilias and colour photos are not alien to me, here is a photo of the ex-Rodney Wilkinson Aprilia looking like it’s being enjoyed by Les Sheldon, its current owner!

It was a great day. I had a trip round with Mark in his Barchetta and I think I was grinning the whole time. A fabulous car, and what fun to do 100mph+ with the top down. :)
(Note to self: take sun cream and a hat to outdoor events)

The items (in the pic from inside Freds Aprilia) peeping through the oval cut-outs are the boot lid hinges.

And many thank-you's to all those who took and posted the pictures. I of course forgot to take my camera!

Thanks to all for the organisation and driving tips. Had an excellent day in the (quietly now) 156. Forgotten how much fun the Track Day is. Haven't done it for years. Definitely back next year. Very tempted to see what other similar "events" are 'round and about.

Ciao.

To all attendees - well, thank you all for coming and  I'm glad you enjoyed the day. This was not just a trackday plus the 75th birthday celebration of the Aprilia - the paddock was more like the LMC national rally on speed. (take that how you will!). I was overwhelmed by the attendance of a great cross section of members and the kind comments made by many.

Please, please get ready to enter or support next year. Anybody got any good ideas to raise money at the trackday for the club???  as it costs  £1000 per hour to run this event. The club subsidises the day and is happy to do so within reason. We as a club must not loose this event as it is so attached to our heritage - this all depends on your continued excellent support!
