Title: Augusta Head Gasket Failure
Post by: JohnMillham on 18 October, 2010, 09:50:16 PM
Here's a photo showing where my head gasket failed on the way home from the French Rally last month. It sounded like a machine gun, so I imagined it was an exhaust leak. It didn't loose any water, just compression!
 Regards, John

It's sometimes hard to be sure where exactly a head gasket has failed.  No uncertainty in this instance!

The dreaded hot corner John.  When I modified a head for twin exhaust ports, at Bill Smith's suggestion, I drilled and tapped in 5 copper heat pipes and cooled them on the outside with a water filled capsule.  It works but I should have thought ahead and extended the water space to cover the area of the original exhaust port.  Peter Renou.
