Title: Gamma photos
Post by: fensaddler on 19 April, 2010, 12:02:44 PM
If anyone has any good photos of Gammas (ie Gammas looking lovely and shiny and complete...) in electronic format, without any copyright issues, and which they would be happy to see reproduced in the motoring press, could you get in touch and/or send to me please (press@lanciamc.co.uk)?  Thanks!

Hi Chris berlinas or coupes?  I take it that they don't want pictures of mine.

This time next year we should be able to easily arrange a group photo of 4 Berlinas in lovely condition. Hopefully.  8)

Chris,

What about the LMC Photo Library? The library has seven black & white period press-photos of all the Gammas. They are high definition scans in TIFF form, ready for emailing. The LMC reference numbers are LMC84 to 90. If you are interested and can’t get them from ‘official sources’, I have copies.

I think official sources may be stuck overseas, so yes please, I would love to have.  Do you know what is there for Thema and Flavia/2000 in terms of original press shots?  I'd really like to lay my hands on S1 Thema, Thema 8.32, Thema Turbo and anything Flavia/2000 in terms of official press photos to add to the Thema 25 and Flavia 50 press releases.

Chris,

The LMC Photo Library is not vast, but there are good press photos to meet most, if not all the ones you want. As TIFFS each one is about 4MB in size – too big to email many in that form. I will email you off-forum the index of photos and you can make a selection that I could reduce to JPGs for emailing.

Hi Chris, the photo of my berlina that I like best was taken by Tony Harrison at Covent Garden - it's in his "Lancias in the Piazza" in flickr as is a nice picture of Paul Fitzgerald's coupe.  I don't know if he would be amenable to his pictures being used by a magazine?

Charles - you read my mind!  I have pointed them in that direction.  Can I thank everyone for their help - I've been able to gather together some fabulous photos, and between us I think we've managed to provide plenty of choice.  I'll try and archive what I can, since good photos are always useful to the press...

No Thema Series one press photos but I have 5 of the series 2 (1990) that are captioned (in Italian) second generation intelligent suspension, if you don't already have them.
I take it you've got plenty of Dedra?
I also have the 1986 press pack for the Y104WD with press photos,
And some coloured ones of the Y from the 69th Geneva show, with smaller colour photos of the Y including one with the Kaleydos colours that were available, issued by Fiat France.

I think I'm going to be OK for most things fairly soon  ;D  Moreover, if I hinted at a general call for photos I think I'd be buried under the avalanche, given the response on Gammas...

Sorry to have bothered you, it would be nice to know what the Club holds.

What does Will hold in the library of 'official' photos he has for the club?

As I understand, it is quite fragmented.  Colin Marr is passing to me what he holds (and has I think scanned in himself on behalf of the club), but I understand that there are also pictures with Will, Brian Mills and Chris with the Club Library, plus also, I imagine, other material in the hands of other members.  The ultimate solution, which is being worked on, is to get all of this online, for members only access.  Then not only could all the official club material by stored in one place, but also material held by others members could be uploaded by them for storage and sharing.  I'm trying not to complicate that by creating my own press library, so for now I'll just ask on a case by case basis, and allow the formal, and hopefully very effective solution, get off the ground!  And no need to apologise - I'm always a. very grateful and b. often astounded, by the willingness of club members to help in any number of things.

I can explain some of the fragmentation that Chris refers to.

A few years ago I became interested in finding out more about the photographs that formed the John Maltby bequest to the LMC. The official custodian of the photo library is the LMC Librarian, Chris Hopkins, and after the AGM in 2008 I borrowed from Chris the Maltby photos (about 50 of them) and others contained in two lever-arch files of black & white photos – about 200 in total. These were duly scanned and the originals returned to Chris, together with digital copies on CDs and with indexes in Word form, which are searchable.

The idea then was to make all of these available to LMC members, either by distribution of the CDs, or online, and effort was spent on finding out more about the sort of software that could do this. Apart from some colour transparencies that Chris also held, I then thought that this was the totality of the photo library.

I ceased to be involved with this early in 2009, when in addition to the photos held by Chris Hopkins, it seemed there were also large numbers of LMC photos held by Will How and Brian Mills – these included photos rescued from Fiat (Fiat Collection) and a collection of valuable motor sport photos (Colin Taylor Collection) purchased by the LMC. I am not aware of any of these being scanned.

Colin

PS Aren’t old photos lovely!

I've done pretty well from here, though I'm sure from our resident consortium members.  I think the article is now written, and the poor chap has been deluged with pictures of Gammas!  But thanks for the offer...!
