Title: Gamma Coupe for sale on eBay
Post by: carljenkins on 02 March, 2010, 07:43:21 AM
A very nice Gamma Coupe manual has appeared for sale on eBay auction. See it at:

Just thought I'd bring it to the attention of the Gamma enthusiasts.

Carl.

Sounds like a nice one to have, once again if it's as good as it looks, I wonder who supplied it originally as it's a Bedfordshire Registration number, it might be on the number plate as that looks fairly original, but too small for me to read. ::)

That's rather lovely.  Hope it ends up in the club.

Registered in the online database ... just in case it ever does find its way here. Is it a series 1 or 2 ?

An answer from he who should know.
Hi Guys,

The car has been advertised before, bit of an oddity, it's probably a ser 1.5 as
it has ser II interior but ser I grille, wheels etc. also it has a 2 ltr engine so it may
well have been imported from South Africa (UK models were all 2.5 ltr)  should
also be a '79/80 reg if it was a UK car, steel sun roof (factory fit) is also unusual.

regards
Geoff The Colonel

From the small bit of data I have available only 22 Gamma's (all Coupe) were officially imported new into South Africa and are quoted to have 2.5 litre engines. There is no reason a 2 litre version would be shipped here as most manufactures only supply the larger engine versions due to so much of the country being at high altitude. There is also no tax benifit for smaller engines.

........then there was the Coupe with the twin cam installed after the boxer engine expired. It was navy, too! I think it featured in VL! some years ago. It belonged to a member on the east coast if Ireland. Could be the same car.

Going by the photos on ebay it doesn't look like an upright twin cam ?

Lets face it, this car is a 2ltr Gamma coupe (flat four), Probably early 79 build. How it got to the UK - who knows.

Early79 build?? Yes. Look at the dash pics - it has the analogue clock with the little switch underneath to turn off the light ( Lancia's way of getting over the probem of the reflection in the windscreen) which lasted from launch until early 79. It is pure series 1 dash & carpets. The first Coupes into the UK had the original interior, with the cream vinyl door trims and plain velour seats with transverse pleating. From early 79 build, the seats were replaced with the restyled L-cloth type and the door trims covered in plain velour, that continued in the coupe for the rest of the production run, including series 2 (or more correctly, facelift) Gamma.
So, apart from the mystery of it being a rhd 2ltr in the uk, there is absolutely no mystery as to its spec level or model type. The fact it is a later registered car could imply it was imported into the UK in 82/83.
