well chaps , another little tail about collecting an s2 appia from norfolk, don cross told me that he new of an appia , didn't know any details other than it was spares material, i phoned about it , spoke to a really nice guy, he said it was an s2, ideal for me as i need s2 doors bonnet etc for my pickup,
anyway back to the plot, saturday morning myself and my amigo warby set off at 5am on our trip, both knackered from only a few hrs sleep, A5 was terrible, freezing fog and we were down to 30mph, it looked like it was going to be a long day, we stopped for fuel and snacks for the trip, the attendant was very helpfull and takes a good photo

we decided to take a quick pitstop on the A14, this was some 3hrs later!!, i remember the services well as i had broken down there some 10 yrs ealier on my return trip to holland (work), i knew there was a branch of our favourite diner "THE GOLDEN ARCHES" there so we thought breakfast time

after the pit stop we charged on making good time, we arrived at jeremy's house at 9.45, things were looking good , he had some spares new and secondhand which we loaded into the van first, at this point i still hadn't actually seen the car, myself and matty took a walk around the back of the house to have a look, 1st thing that struck me was that it was an s3 not an s2, ........have a look

then we had the problem that the car was "well and truely stuck!!", we basically had to winch it out and steer it with a winch also as the steering had rusted up solid too!!

in the meen time i dismantled anything that would just fall off on the way home (most of the front end) and removed the rear screen     (with 1 hand!!!!) anyway 3hrs later! we managed to get the car pointing at the car trailer ready to winch on, in this 3hr period we'd had quite a good downfall of rain , rain +van & trailer on grass = REALLY NOT GOOD!!!!

anyway after we were towed out we got moving home ATLAST!! we finally got home at 7.30pm!! by the time we'd unhitched the trailer etc it was 8pm......home in time for the X factor results

while we were there we found a fulvia.......anyone interested?? its a series 1  ;D

Where abouts in Norfolk was it ? I may go and have a look in spring if its not gone.

ovington IP25 have you got a winch ........or maybe a shovel and a few sacks to put it in:D

My only concern would be if the thorns have scratched the paint  ;D

I'll have to remind myself in spring when we go across there, to have a look.

the fulvia has TOTALLY collapsed, however it does appear to have a full set of alloy panels, boot is definatly, the owner seems to think the bonnet is and from what i could see "from 6ft away and through brambles" the doors appear to have bits of alloy showing through chipped off paint, real shame and totally beyond any restoration prospect, however it could source some good parts  ???

 i'm glad we amused you, its worth the effort if you know you've had someone laugh  :D did anyone notice the "GREEN CARPETS" in the back of it  :D , i'm absolutly knackered today, however i'm sure i'll be recovered for next weekends adventures of exeter collecting the appia pickup from allan wesson  ;D, my christmass pressent to myself !! highlight of yesterday for me was when we parked in the layby to take some pics of the car on the trailer and check everything was still there, a man came to ask us if we were ok ?? did we need any help?? looking at matty i don't know if he meant mentally or were we in trouble  :D if you look in the photo just infront of the ducato is a black 206, his misses was in stiches when we pulled up lol,

I'm surprised that he even stopped, who in their right minds would stop and ask Warby if he was ok, let alone when dressed up a Pancho Villa :D

I have an informal rule of thumb about these things ..... if the GLASS is unserviceable, then the rest is probably not far ahead.

Some of my recovery trips have been as eventful but none was so colourful ...  and there was never really much scope for photos as I mainly worked alone ... and by cover of darkness.

You are lucky to have Warby to support you - the A55 can be a lonely, hungry place late at night

So let me understand this right - if an S3 Appia has greenwall tyres then expect to find green carpets?

I've found the name of the green for the carpets!!   Its Juarez Green, after the Juarez horse racing track in Chihuahua, Mexico.

My mistake - that "Juarez Green" is only (as far as I know...) the "Dos Amigos" special edition Fulvia.  They came in a number of exterior shades, but always with a russet "Agua Caliente" stripe along the wheel arches, door bottoms, and rear valance.
 
That SIII Appia carpet is "Moss Green".

Moss Green! im not sure you could figure out which part was carpet and which part was moss. thanks for the comment stating chugga is lucky to have me as his amigo although im not sure he always feels the same way. I had very few hours infact to say hours wouldnt be fair i had a quick hours snnoze before the road trip mainly due to me being so excited as i quite like road trips the other being that id drank rather a few cups of coffee.(that new douwe egberts stuff is really perky). anyway it was rather a chilly start we gathered this as the inside window of chuggas little van had ice on it, but what better than to warm the coccles than a sense of adventure i.e. a road trip. but not just any road trip a chugga and warby raiders of the lost parts:amigos for life road trip. which meant i got to wear another costume BONUS! so with my hat my poncho and my bushy tash all in situ we were away. first stop was an important one a fuel stop, rather an expensive one nowadays too thanks mr brown and friends, anyway in we go all mexed up and we meet a nice attendent who i think found my tash and outfit a little too fetching was willing to take a photo of us both. what was more disturbing is a bloke walked in and payed for his bottle of milk and some fuel looked at me and didnt batter an eyelid it must be a local filling point for mexicans in our area which is handy for future reference.then off to go again, it was going great guns until we neared the A5 where we met good old freezing fog and it was rather dense this fog and vision was limited. mine usually is but thats not always a bad thing. anyway it was lucky we had travelled these roads more than once(lots more than once) and we managed to navigate them at around 30mph (well thats the figure chugga used i think he needs specsavers we were going with a little more gusto than that) eventually we out run the freezing fog and vision is cleared which was lucky as there was lots to see like mmmmmmmmm well not much i hadnt seen before but being able to see was rather nice. so we outrun the fog and day was breaking which is a beautiful sight

beautiful until you outrun that as well. now im not sure if we were doing 88mph (which im sure we were not mr officer) but some kind of back to the future voodooo happened as just after the hills started to glow and birds sing it kinda all went dark again. time for a pit stop soon a golden arches resteraunt was drawing nearer and there was one hungry mexican needing a breakfast and i was pretty peckish too. in i burst as though id been traveling on my donky over rough ground for many hours (which could be similar to what had happened) and ordered my breakfast, the attendent looked and wasnt sure exactly what was going on but took my order and provided me with bbq sauce as this is how an authentic mexican would eat his double sausage and egg muffin and hash brown. it was good too. traveling all this way i thought it would be a good idea to use the rest fascilities as there may not be another chance for some time. as i am exiting the cubicle in full garb but adjusting my poncho there is a gentleman having difficulty using the urinal as he starts to get damp feet his expression was one of a man that had never seen a pastey mexican with a welsh twang bid him good morning as they were exiting the gents. odd that really but anyhow off to get the rewards of the journey

And what a reward we got! i was asked to remove the mexican attire as it may upset the gentleman we were goign to see (jolly nice guy by the way and i think he would have liked the idea of a mexican coming round to his house he could have discussed it with his neighbours, they would have been so jealous and envious of him). so all overalled up we find the chaps house. lovely house by the way. he lets us in his garage and starts producing little gems or spare parts either way it was good. there was a slight problem though as there didnt appear to be an appia in vision and that my firends is because it was hiding in his four acres at the back of his house (another 96 of them and we may have found winnie the pooh and the gang). the access to this is through another street and may be tricky so me and chugga go and case it out. ok bit narrow, its a field so ground is abit soft. yeah lets do it! and with some skillful driving we make it throught the gates remove the carrying device from the trusty mule and push it into place then move the mule up to it. Hang on! my lancia knowledge is not as great as many but that looks like a series 3 and i though chugga wanted a series 2mmmmmm musyt have miss heard. turns out he did want a series 2 and it was a series 3 but hey we aint coming back with nothing not by any means. (i came back with aches, pains, scratches the list is endless but wow did i enjoy getting them). so we are in this field with a car that isnt really the right one the rear wheels dont turn infact they have no air in them neither do the spares it is sunk in the mud it is facing the wrong way oh and its raining. well time to rectify these mere stepping stones. i get the job of jacking up the car probably as im used to being low to the ground and rather a good crawler(thats another story)

so under i go with this jack but the arm is too long and the car is too deep to work it properly so some minor adjustments and a few mouthfuls of rust later and we are skyward bound well enough to change the wheels anyhow. which had been inflated thanks to a marvelous bit of equiptment packed by father of chugga. steering oh yes now we have it sort of moving (break cables cut, rear drums given some gentle persuaion with a lump hammer and a crow bar) not much but with a winch moving we now had the difficulty of moving as the steering wheel would turn but the wheels didnt. chugga thought it would be useful at this time to investigate the rason and remove any items which may fall off on the way home. mmmmmmmm well with his bare hands and a tickle in the right place most of the front end of the car was removed and placed in the van.problem wiht steering identified but without a welder it was a little difficult to rectify. anyway alot of winching later the car was loaded behind the trusty steed ready for home. that of course is until the trusty steed felt it would play in the mud for a while. luckily the really nice guy who we got the stuff from had a vehicle and he would tow us a little out of our sticky situation. we had tried other methods before going for the mebarrasing option of getting towed by a CITROEN! but they ended in me mainly ending up covered in mud. now there are many other parts of this story left out for certain reasons but i think you get the just of it all. oh i cant wait for the next one! ;D

I know I will never be as nice as the man you met when you got to wherever you were going to on this trip but I also know I will never end up with a Fulvia concealed in a thicket of bushes or an Appia I've neglected for so long that I forget what series it is (that one is easy as I'll never have an Appia of ANY series) and I may not have 4 acres but I do have a great big shed. Now, admittedly I've planted bushes all around the outside of the shed but the Lancias are all inside and the bushes can't get in ....

there's a meen golden arches on the A55 near halkyn and a burger king near rhyl, have to admit though its a boring road!!! next time your on it give us a shout as were only 10 mins from it, could meet you for a burger lol

There is also the OK diner which is .......... well, OK i suppose. yeah im lucky to have a travelling buddy or it wouldnt be so eventful. i am sure chugga would hire me out though if you needed company or even better we could all go in convoy!

can we have  "as featured in vl" in the title lol, both of us were buckled this morning when my copy arrived at the unit  :D

myself and matty can infact be quite normal people, matty is a mental health nurse (how apt) and i run my own business, however when in each others company things are very rarely normal!! we have a great laugh together and share a great friendship, this sort of thing isn't everyones cup of tea but atleast its amused a few and told a tale , thanks for sharing "our humour" and the article in vl was really funny to see  ;D

i have an appia and an ardea  ;D ardea is what i'm doing at the moment and thats what it should have looked like origionally, great model i bought a couple last yr
