Title: Petition to save classic cars from the Scrappage Scheme
Post by: stuwilson128 on 22 October, 2009, 03:18:56 PM
I know it is probably a waste of time as the P.M. won't listen anyway, but there is a petition calling for classic cars to be saved from the scrappage scheme by re-introducing the free road-fund licence for cars over 25 years old.  Deadline for signing is in two days time (24th October).

This is been repilied to ... and the answer is, of course, "no"

I've given up even signing these, as it's only a cosmetic exercise to make it look like we have a say in how this Government mismanages the Country, does anyone know if anything has ever been accepted?

No surprises there then!  Why not extend to 30 years they would not loose out that much in taxation, but I am guessing, the government doesn't listen as usual and appears out of touch with reality, so I am inclined not too bother with these petitions too.

Listen lads, if you want to live in a REAL mis-managed country, move over here (Irl), then again we have a 30 year rolling date as regards 'classics', road tax 46 Euro, no MOT requirements and an import tax of 60 Euro. But I suspect we have this not because the powers that be like old cars, rather than they've forgotton we exist.

I agree, a waste of time, clearly answered without being looked into.

The situation has changed completely since 1998. I can't think of any new classics in the intervening years and this could have been a welcome boost to an industry that even Number 10 accepts to be of benefit to our floundering economy. It would have cost them next to nothing if they could have been bothered to check it out.

Come back soon Kenneth Clarke.
