Title: Y 10 turbo spare required!!
Post by: dlyris on 14 August, 2009, 05:59:24 AM
Hi,

I am trying to find somehting that I call a plastic "tap", like a T-connector that connects the two water hoses going from the engine to the warming element at the Y10 turbo. There are two hoses going from the engine to the warming element. One of them connects to this "tap" first and then continues with another hose to the warming element. I think that the use of this tap is to take air out of the system because it has a plastic screw on the top of it which can be opened and let air out. In my case it is stuck over the years. The thing is that it leaks radiator liquid from it so it probably has a crack somewhere. I thought that the crack was at the hose but after having replaced it, it continues to leak.

Does anyone has this plastic connector or a part number for it from those old slides?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Dimitris

I think I know what you mean but can you post a photo so we know what it looks like.
It soundssimilar to a T piece I made up to bleed air from the heating circuit of my Fulvia, that may be a way around the problem until you can find the right part.

Hi Dimitris,

What I made up for my Fulvia would do you equally as well.
I used a 15mm copper Tee as used in domestic heating systems, 3 short lengths of 15 mm copper pipe and a brass bleed screw used for bleeding the highest point in a central heating system; it's dead easy to make, you solder the bleed screw to one short length of the 15mm pipe, then all three lengths of pipe to the tee with the piece attached to the bleed screw in the upright tee, job done, it's much easier to make then it sounds, see photos.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your reply. I shall try to fix it the way you describe even though I am not so good with soldering.

Just make sure you clean everything well and use flux, attach the bleed valve to it's short piece of pipe first, then wrap that  joint with a wet cloth while you solder the 3 pipes into the tee, have you got a friendly plumber anywhere near you ? it would take him about 5 minutes.

I did have a spare but I let a fulvia owner have it on wednesday night at the North London meet at the Ace Cafe ::)

Part number is 5957728, a very common part back in the day, I have 4 in stock. This was fitted to most models of the era, Uno, Tipo, Croma etc. I've once fitted one to a heater pipe on my Aurelia.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you. I think that I have found one here in Sweden. Otherwise I'll get one from you.

Best regards
