Title: axle stands to front of car Post by: bill on 13 March, 2009, 05:07:33 PM hello everyone, I need some advise on where to place the axle stands. the work I am going to carry out, welding to the wheel arch and would like to start and overhaul the brakes.
at present I have the rear of the car on axle stands and the front on ramps. my question is when the front wheel is removed where would be a safe place to put an axle stand ? to support the car. thank you. Bill. ps. this is the start of many questions. I agree with Richard. When I need to raise the front of my car I use a trolley jack under the centre of the front cross member and lift it to the limit, then I put axle-stands under the sub-frame at the point where the inner ends of the wishbones are mounted. If I need to get it higher, I put the trolley-jack on wooden planks and do the whole thing once more. Take care! Colin An afterthought: When you do this for the first time, and if you have any worries about the structural integrity of your car, do the initial jacking from the front cross-member with great care! If you hear ominous creaks and groans – stop and think again! You might be better off jacking equally from each side further back down the sub-frame.
