Title: Gearbox
Post by: davidwheeler on 24 February, 2009, 11:05:16 AM
My Aprilia gearbox routinely jumped out of third gear.  Replacing the bearings and thus reducing the endfloat has greatly reduced this.  Both my Lambda gearboxes fall out of third gear despite new bearings.  The layshaft has adjustments at each end by which endfloat and fore-and-aft position can be altered.  What are the correct settings?

Came across David's old post on this subject, with no comments. I had the same trouble for about 20 years, then found that the small coil spring that holds 3rd gear in place had collapsed. I'll let you know in due course if the problem is solved with the new spring I've installed (once I get my sparks back).
