My plan - from a long time back - was to take the feed out the front of the sump and back in to the strainer housing. This would require a blanking plug to be drilled out of the sump and tapped for the fitting, and for a plug to be fitted to the sump to block feed. A neater solution would be to have the in-and-out from a plate using the strainer mountings but I never got as far as working out how to seal the inlet from the outlet internally, or if there was space for both fittings next to each other.
