Title: Timing chain and tensioner replacement
Post by: andyps on 10 June, 2022, 10:26:52 AM
I need to replace my timing chain and tensioner so looking for any tips on the easiest way to do it. I know it is possible to connect the new chain to the old one and wind it round but any specifics would be much appreciated as I'm hoping to dismantle as little as possible whilst doing the job.

Do not wind it round the pistons will hit valves if cams are stationary. The tensioner may just come out of the water pump aperture (you need to remove the pump to get to the 2 bolts. Care to undo the brass top nut on the tensioner and fish out the spring and plunger with a magnet (stop  it falling into the  sump). I split the chain  at the top and remove then insert lhs passed the relaxed  tensioner  and fish with strong mag stick. Much easier with oil drained and  sump off....

Thanks Tim, sounds like I need to buy some more gaskets!
