Title: Pole type fuel senders
Post by: Richard Fridd on 01 January, 2022, 05:06:34 PM
Has anyone here tried one of these with the standard fuel guage. Zero to 180 ohms available locally (Carbuilder)with various heights to choose from. Richard

The Flavia2000Consortium had a few articles on converting to these level senders a couple of years ago.
You might chase them up.
 Cheers
Brian

Excellent Brian, anyone here know if there an article available? Could be invaluable prior to proceeding. Richard

I am away from home for a while so can't dig out the subject article.
Basically you have to ensure that the empty-to-full resistance change in the new sensor is the same as in the original one.
The new one states '180 ohm'. If you have a multimeter you can check what the resistance of the winding in the original sensor is.
Although I haven't tried it, you could temporarily connect the new sensor and immerse the float portion in a jar of water to see how it matches up with the gauge indication.

Hi Richard,
I had my original sender repaired by someone. I think his name was GaugeMan or something similar.
I found this information about original sender at:
www.classiclancia.com/car-parts/flaminia-petrol-tank-buoy-flotter-boa

OHM range: 4/4 tank: 10 Ohms = approx.
OHM range: 1/2 tank: 100 Ohms = approx.
OHM range: (nearly) empty: 300 Ohms = approx.
Length (total): 260 mm

Original parts
Fuel gauge - Jaeger  76278 29 25097 002
Tank Sender - Jaeger 39/77990/01

Thanks Chris, I expect the locally available one I had in mind would read 'empty' at the half way level, but the 250mm depth seems suitable, having measured my tank, narrowly avoiding internal obstructions. Fuel level always seems low when I look in there, similar to your recent thread, although 20 miles per gallon? (Twice round my test route and ten minutes shuffling back into my garage). Richard

Is this any use? Looks like a current reproduction from M.A.R.A.

That sounds a bit excessive…..I think the equivalent Fulvia item is €105+vat.

How about trying out friend in NL….

It should be a good solution, but no idea on price. It’s almost worth it for the description “buoy-flotter-boa”

Is there enough interest to buy a small batch for members? I could be interested.
