Title: Drive It Day 2021 (25th April)
Post by: Neil on 14 April, 2021, 02:59:47 PM
This annual event is now on!

National Drive It Day was created by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs in 2005. It is the occasion
when historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public at large have the opportunity to celebrate the One Thousand
Mile Trial organised in 1900 to prove the viability of the new invention, the motor vehicle. It’s also a chance to
raise awareness and support amongst the public for the historic vehicle movement and keeping transport
heritage on UK roads.
This year’s Drive It Day celebration is scheduled for Sunday, 25th April and many enthusiasts have been asking
for the latest information on what can and cannot proceed to mark this National Awareness Day. The FBHVC is
pleased to announce that the latest news, is good news.

Not on DriveIt day, but we did go out for breakfast the day before - a jaunt down to Frome to meet up and have breakfast :)

Gave us the chance for a catch up ( as opposed to our regular Skype catch ups ) and plan the coming year ahead for local trips out over interesting routes ....

I suppose I could mention that I did take mine out for a drive today and saw one other MGB and that was it ...

Flat Iron Square, Southwark.  Approx 97 hipsters were piling out of the Merc as I parked.  It was from 1978, the same as my Beta.

I got in a nice 120 mile drive to Castle Howard and back yesterday to mark 'Drive It Day', including finding some great driving roads (and a good pub lunch) between there and Boroughbridge.

Nice selection of other classics seen on route too.

The West Berkshire local Group organised a meeting on the Ridgeway between Berkshire and Oxfordshire overlooking AERE Harwell to the north. The cars that took part were:
Aurelia B20 GT; a newly restored 1938 Aprilia which had just driven up from Hampshire, the first time she had been so far in 50 years; 1937 Augusta Saloon; Fulvia Coupe S1; S1 Flavia Saloon; Fulvia HF 1600 Coupe and Fulvia 1600 Sport.  We then drove across the Berkshire Downs passing more classic cars then we had ever seen on the road in one day, from Fiat 500s to Rolls Royces and Ferrari 250 to Escort Mexico - fantastic day.

Just general seepage, thought I carry out a small refurb but had forgotten the joys of 50 years old aluminium and undoing bolts at 1/8 of a turn, so turned into something more substantial. Hope to be back on the road this weekend
