Title: More Aprilia restoration projects for sale
Post by: Sliding Pillar on 05 March, 2021, 05:07:38 PM
It seems as if Aprilia restoration projects are like buses at the moment, following the hoard for sale in Cambridgeshire (See https://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=12200.0 ) there are two more offered for sale at the next Bonhams MPH sale, although these have more realistic estimates. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26807/lot/72/?category=list&length=108&page=1 and https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26807/lot/73/?category=list&length=108&page=1

I'm surprised that Bonhams felt it advantageous to mention that it's Right Hand Drive!

These are interesting results, as comparisons can be made with other cars offered for sale recently,
and you can include the very original Augusta Cabriolet that was sold on eBay for £13,550 the other week.

So comparing these prices with the Cambridgeshire 'hoard', we have 4 Aprilias at £3,000 each (being generous)
1 Augusta Cabriolet which does not look anything like as nice as the eBay one, so lets say £10,000, an Ardea (ex-Brin) which sold at auction for £767, so with a bit of inflation we'll call it £1,000 and two Augusta Saloons that I think are worth less than an Aprilia, but I'm feeling generous again, so £3,000 each.
Total £29,000. Add the value of the spares (Unknown quantity and quality) and subtract a discount for bulk buying and the not insignificant problem plus cost of moving it all, still £29,000 in my mind.

So my question is this, where does the Cambridgeshire 'hoard' value of £100,000 come from?

I was interested in Lot 72 the more rusty green Aprilia as a parts car for my own project, Bonhams emailed me a video showing certain parts and areas which I requested. In my mind the car would be far too time consuming replacing most of floorpan and structural metal, it was very far gone. There were at least 5 people bidding with my reverse being eclipsed fairly quickly. Although I did start bidding on 72 the red car, I didn’t really feel comfortable to use the better car as a parts car, luckily I was out bided. Maybe they were brought as a pair to make one good one?
If the purchaser sees this and wants to recoup some of their expenditure I am in the market for some spares, so please contact me.

The horn button looks OK!  Will be a long way before one can enter the mille miglia in that car....

That’s a lot more gone than Bonhams made out, looking at the pictures I had a lucky escape.
