Title: appia s1 starter motor
Post by: a1city on 03 January, 2021, 06:53:55 PM
hi all, i have reached the stage( after a complete engine rebuild ) of firing up my engine. the origional starter works slowly and i,m asking what experience other folk have had using the new Hi Torque starter motor. obviously there would be wiring mods involved. thanks dave

Dismantle the starter clean old grease and polish the commutator  (scrape between the segments with a stanley blade or similar) and replace brushes if worn out (ie the worm spring has no more push in to make the brushes sit hard onto the commutator) and regrease. Always brings starter motors back to life if rotor not burnt out (unlikely if still working).

There would be a bit of rewiring as it would be an opportunity to go over to a key operated starter instead of pulling a lever. A new ignition switch would be needed as well.
