Title: Early 1600 Beta Spider
Post by: neil-yaj396 on 13 May, 2020, 07:02:52 AM
A lady in Chesterfield is offering her late husband's former show winning car for sale. The sports seats and stickers might not be to everyone's taste, but the standard seats also come with the car. On the down side, the car has not turned a wheel in 5 years after the carburettor started paying up and it may have been removed. Another biggie is that all the keys are lost. Check out the attached photos. Naturally a post lock down inspection would be necessary. What is it worth if it is as good as it looks? A relatively inferior later car is currently on ebay for £4250 and dealers now chase 5 figures for good Spiders.      Contact Jill Toyne 07885 546316 - jilltoyne@yahoo.co.uk. DVLA states a first date of registration as 1st January 1971! Proper time machine.

It looks stunning in the pictures but hasn't been MOT'd since Jun 2011 so will need to be very carefully recommissioned.

Never had a Beta Spider! Good luck to whoever ends up with this lovely looking car.

There's a show condition late model one on e-bay in Northern Ireland for a shade under £19,000. It doesn't mean that's necessarily a realistic price but I would probably choose this one over that.

So far as the keys are concerned, if the locks can be taken off then Cooper Keys in Chelmsford made a machine to cut the special Lancia keys and assuming they are open post lockdown might be able to sort that by post (they are near Chelmsford).

That is interesting given it has all the appearance of a pre facelift car, early dash, door mounted mirrors and early rear lights. Not heard of one being that late registered before.

I suspect some confusion. Surely the Beta Spyder wasn't in production in 1971. Did you mean 1981 or has the personal plate messed up the records?

Guy's post remarking on the registration date reads "1971!" but 1981 does make far more sense.

Hi

Not really, if this is the pre f/l as they were only made up to early 1978 from memory and of the facelift most were 2 litre cars.

My tuppence - I wonder if the car was imported from Ireland at some point? It's probably 1977 but someone at the DVLA couldn't read the paperwork when issuing a V5 and it got typed in as 1971?

I know of one Stratos replica that went in for registration on the donor plate as ***2S and came back as ***25.

Mistooks happin.

Happened on my passport 15 years ago, went to get a new one and they put a DOB as 1906 not 1966. Problem was I was flying to the US the day after, they were not happy and nearly didn’t let me into the country.
