Title: Starer motor wiring
Post by: donw on 22 October, 2019, 12:12:26 PM
Foolishly I did not take photos or mark the wires when the engine was removed 5+ years ago.  The wiring diagram in the manual is not easy to read.

Has any one a clear diagram or photo please.

6th series.

The Bosch starter has a terminal either side of the power cable from the battery.   One of these activates the starter.  Short across from the power cable to each terminal in turn and you will discover the right one.  My two cars are different!   Then look at the back of the switch unit.    Terminal 50 is the one you need, connect a wire twixt the two and you are done.

Thanks David wiring now sorted!  However have now found that the 2 ratchets behind the pinion are knackered the nut holding the pinion on havinf been not fully tight.  Consortium has none in stock at present am advised to get a modern replacement.

I am also in need of new ratchets.  I think the Consortium should look at getting more made not expecting us to buy modern starter motors.  It cannot be that difficult!
