Title: Replacement Fuel tank
Post by: bobhenry999 on 27 September, 2019, 02:38:20 PM
All,

Has anyone bought a fuel tank from these people in Holland.
They are made in aluminium and claim to fit all 815 and 819 cars, albeit at a price of Euro 1285 plus postage.

You could get 2 cars for that money! I had one made for my Flavia coupe by a company that did a lot of rally preparation work might be worth going that route.

Cant the steel one be repaired or refurbished?
I had problems with a an aluminium fuel tank in my race car Aurelia B20 which kept splitting seams, presumably due to flexing.

Having used Frosts slosh to poor effect I had the top carefully cut off and the whole inside and out media blasted. Just a small hole to deal with and the the top rewelded. As a precaution I used the slosh to ensure the the reweld was internally sealed. Blasting was by Maldon Shot blast and the welder was a aircraft certified welder in Ardleigh near me.

Not sure what happened to my earlier post but what I was trying to say was that Ihad problems with an aluminium replacement  tank in my race car B20 as it kept splitting welds, presumably due to flexing.
I know of a fellow racer who had similar problems with a replacement aluminium tank as well as a B20 owner who only used his car on the road.
Best to try to stay with the steel one IMHO.

All,

Thanks for the messages. I think I will try to get mine repaired rather than spend all that money on an aluminium replacement that might prove more problematical.

Thanks,

Bob
