Title: Little Lancias
Post by: frankxhv773t on 31 December, 2018, 10:50:07 AM
I know I am not the only one that likes model Lancias and have long thought we should have a thread for them. So to start things off this is what Santa put in my stocking. It's a PB model so not the best quality but the rarity of the subject makes up for that.

Mike C, is there much Lancia action in that part work? Not much is evident on their web site.

Frank, I cannot find a list of proposed models, but there are two Lancias featured in the promotional literature, so presumably there will be more.

I only tend to have models of cars I have owned so lots of Dilambda!

My favourite is the RIO Dilambda with Mussolini and his close associate the Fascist Party leading light Achille Starace

Here are some Flaminias from Norev, Eligor. Mercury, Scottoy and Starline. I have others as kits either under construction or waiting to be done.

I keep this PF Flaminia from Starline Models ( China ) 1 / 43 scale and surprisingly well detailed.
Door shut line is better than mine  ;D

FlamFan - what are your photography tips?

Models.
The trick is to come off macro setting. When you get close to the model, most camera's will
automatically assume you are focusing on a flower or insect and go into macro mode.
If the front of the car is in focus the rear is usually badly out of focus and vice versa.
Try taking the picture from 2 or 3 ft ( out of macro mode ) in bright natural sunlight focusing
on the centre of the camera screen. Then crop the image and sharpen it. I use Google Picasa (freebie photoshop )
If you have manual control of aperture, stop the lens down to f5.6 to give a deeper depth of field.
If the truth be known it's all a bit hit and miss.
Proper size cars.
Many camera's overexpose a tad. This washes out fine detail like curves on wings, radiator etc.
If an image is badly over exposed it's very difficult to bring it back when editing. Once it's 'blown' it's gone forever.
I always under expose by one stop ( -1 on the dial ) and then adjust when editing in Picasa.
Hope that helps.
BTW some great little models on here.

Flamfan, thank you. Hopefully fine images will result from your advice.

Here are some Aprilias to entertain you. The grey one is an old Mikansue white metal kit and the cabriolet is a resin kit by Gamma. I must do some dusting.

You might notice a slight bias towards one particular type of Lancia in my collection!   The three 1/18 scale models are from AutoArt, while the 1/43 models are from various manufacturers.  The second photo shows that I do deviate from Fulvias occasionally. These are three models I picked up for less than a fiver each at Malaga Auto Retro last year.  The Alpine is one of the few non-Lancia cars that I consider worthy to share garage space with my Fulvia (though Santa didn't bring a full-size one this year, despite my request), and what more can be said about the wonderful D24.

The only model I have is this Automodelli Thema 8.32 one which I got around the time I bought the real thing. Given that was in 1999, I think it's safe to say I won't be building it now so if anyone fancies it, please drop me a message.
Thanks.

Here are my a couple of 8:32s. Many, like the black Norev at the front, just have a sticker to outline where the rear spoiler should be. For me any serious model must have the rear spoiler deployed as with the red Kess model. There is a kit on e-bay at the moment asking £107 bt that is completely unrealistic to me. A few years ago a trader had a stack like the one above which he was virtually giving away.

The one on Ebay was in France and it had the normal Thema wheels although it was labelled as an 8.32. I think I paid around £70 for the one I have, open to offers on it though.

I've had this Aurelia for over 35 years and has been living in my garage in barnfind / garage condition. The paint and
bumpers show plenty of blistering just like the real thing  ;D
The maker was Burago and is 1/18th scale ( approx 9.5 inches long ).
This must have been one of their most popular models as it's still available today. It's very nicely detailed considering it's
relatively modest price.

Another B24 spider, this time 1/24, and with the standard wheels.

Was quite inexpensive a few years ago, and more faithfully detailled than the Burago.

There was a real Aurelia with the Burago wheels but it always seemed a bit odd to me that they chose to model that one.
