Title: Appia seats
Post by: roy parmenter on 01 November, 2018, 06:27:49 PM
Hi there – new member – just purchased a RHD 1961 Lancia Appia s3 which will look to the possibility of a mild rally conversion – to that end I am seeking information as to replacing the front bench seat with singles - but would like them to be in keeping with the car & age related. Can anyone advise if the Italians made any form of rally seat in this era & whether they might be available somewhere – if not a seat that might be in keeping. Not much on the internet for Appia’s in competition – the only mention I could locate was a 25th finish on the 1962 Acropolis Rally!

Some variety here:

Was thinking of the little Fiat 600 based Abarth Zagatos:

Fulvia S1 seats are very comfortable and period looking.

THE question for me is if you want a headrest...

Hello

attached is an interior view of Walter Radler's Appia 3rd series berlina which has been modified by Nardi in period for "racing".
Walter Radler was Austrian champion in the state touring/rallying championship with his Appia.
He had the car prepared by Nardi which included a different cylinder head, carburetor as well as the interior. Walter Radler recalled the price of the Nardi work as a "hair-cut".

I think the interior and the seats look quite suitable for the purpose!

If you want to find more on Walter Radler and his Appia please go to LANCIAnews.com and search for his name. You will be surprised!

Best
Josef

Of course Appias were available with separate front seats if you didn't feel the need for a full on rally look.

Had a quick look - and glad I did!  Some lovely period S3 rally photos here:

Search results with a number of articles:

Put some of the photos on "photo of the day" thread, but here also:

In the first photo is that really a crash helmet I see leaning out of the rhs front window. Hard to tell if passenger or driver!!

I think the passenger is behaving like a bike and sidecar passenger, or trying to get out before the roll.

Just came across this thread.

Roy ultimately chose Morris Minor seats and had them recovered to match the dark red interior of the ex Christo Smal car. He has now sold the car. Is the new owner a member I wonder?
