Title: worth saving?
Post by: lancianut666 on 19 May, 2018, 11:25:02 AM
During my scouring of the classified ads for something to squander my inheritance on came across this

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C993680

Not quite a Flaminia coupe...but might pop up to Durham to check it out

Go for it. They are a great little every day car. I even have a spare alloy wheel with your name on if you rescue it!

You will be welcome to any assistance I can provide. I am more short of space than short of parts!

Got that tee shirt...

"It nothing like as good as it looks in the photos - really terrible - and I brought it home..."

I have that tee-shirt too, more than once. Anything I can help with, including parts, just ask.

After heading out into the wilds of County Durham past a Volvo Saintmobile P1800 abandoned at the side of the road we came to the Y10 it was surrounded by the remains of a bevy of Italian cars from the last 30 years sadly all were in need of serious restoration...when was the last time you saw a Fiat Strada or an Uno?
Anyway back to the Y10...apart from a mangled back bumper and a good coat of moss I was quite impressed with it's condition...did it run? after a bit of persuading the powerful burble of that 999cc FIRE engine was heard...a bit lumpy but a runner it is said to be from a Panda 4wd so should have 50bhp at 5500rpm. I checked under the bonnet and was relieved to see the strut mounts were fine. The brakes are seized (10 years in a garden has that effect) so no test drive. In the boot were the remains of the original 98000 mile engine plus lots of other lovely junk. The interior was OK for it's age but the light stalk was snapped off. The rear hatch was rusty in one corner and there were a couple of holes in the panel under the screen. The seller has a shed load of other spares that he will include in the sale. The V5 is with the car and it will be delivered to the unit in Hartlepool next Wednesday.

check out the original Blaupunkt radio cassette...it powers up bit displays 4 _ _ _ _ so I guess it needs a code?

With his much older brother....everything seems to be there except an alloy wheel.... so free off and overhaul the brakes... get the engine running... easy

That looks well worth it! I'm envious of your headlamp protectors.

I thought they were beam correctors for using the car on the continent...The car came with a couple of spare headlamps so that was nice.

Going by my experience you ought to take off the back bumper while you are sorting it out and thoroughly inspect the bumper mounts and back corners of the rear arches.

Now I'm getting things into some kind of order I'd love a little Y10, that one looks a peach  ;)

I'd forgotten about the little fold down cover for the radio. I remember when I worked at a used car place when these were just a few years old and a prospective buyer questioned why no radio... ;D

the radio needs a code....checked the wheels for rotational ability and 3 will spin by hand but the passenger side front is stuck might be where that new caliper in the boot is meant to go. Me and Terry might have a look on Monday.

If you can't get the code, I'm sure I've got one of those units still kicking around. If not, I've definitely got some others from various other Lancias over the years.

Thanks Andy...I have a couple of Sony car minidisc players that will fit in as well, also a minidisc autochanger so I should be able to get some tunes going.

Don't know if it's true but wasn't there a rumour that if you put the radio in the freezer for a while it will work again? Not sure what the theory was - maybe to kill an internal battery holding the info you no longer have?  Has anybody else heard of this or tried it?

I have heard the freezer trick but never tried it. Given the stack of codeless radios that I have it would be interesting to know if it works.

Hmmm popular urban myth from the heyday of the twocker fraternity or scientific fact? I know the voltage of a battery will drop as the temperature drops perhaps a eeprom in the circuit board will lose it's memory?
