Title: Aurelia water pump question
Post by: lancialulu on 26 November, 2017, 04:33:57 PM
In process of rebuilding the water pump on my Aurelia B12 (2266cc engine).

Does anyone know if the bronze impeller shaft bearing should receive grease?

I ask as there is a grease way down to the phosphor bronze bearing but the bearing has no corresponding hole to let the grease in.

The water pump housing the fan bearings is greased in normal maintenance terms and this grease goes to the greaseway to the impeller shaft bearing.

as I recall, the grease nipple only serves to lubricate the two bearings supporting the fan.
The seal in the pump is effected by the 'O' ring and water-lubricated faces adjacent to the impeller (TAV 23, #2, 27 and 28).

I have subsequently found that the phosphor bronze bush has an annular groove to permit grease from the main housing to the bush. Mine was clogged with rock hard soap (old grease) but when cleared worked well in greasing. I have heard from a well known Aurelia man that use of sealed bearings in the fan housing is a good upgrade but as I had bought new open bearings.
