Title: 1953 Series 1 Appia
Post by: mikeC on 26 June, 2023, 11:20:36 AM
I usually keep my hobby cars for only three or four years before sampling something new. For some reason my Appia has stayed for nearly ten years, which must say something about its character, but I think it's now time for a change.

I'm not particularly keen to leave the Lancia fold, although a pre-War car of another make is tempting me, but if anyone is interested in the Appia and has another Lancia to offer in part-exchange, please get in touch. I'm thinking along the lines of a non-exotic Fulvia, Flavia, 2000, Beta, Trevi, Delta or Prisma with some cash either way... Any spec considered, but must be right-hand drive.

The Appia was sold to me as a low-mileage car with 80,000km on the clock, but after nine years running I'm pretty sure the odometer has been round the clock several times! The car has been totally re-wired, and has a fully-rebuilt engine done by Omicron at vast expense, the interior is well-preserved original (the only aspect that might support a low mileage); it has had one repaint of the external panels some time before I bought it and the car attracts attention whenever it stops - even non-car people can't help but comment, so don't expect to make rapid progress on a journey!

Give me a call on 07779 718812 for a chat, or come and see and inspect the car at the National Rally and AGM on the Sunday.

That's a georgeous looking car there Mike.
What's something like that worth?
Are you after a project swap...I've a '63 Flavia coupe that needs restoring...gearing myself up to start on it soon

Sorry, Kevin, I should have made that clear - no, I don't want a project, mild tinkering is about mu limit these days!

As to value, I would like to recoup my expenditure with Omicron, which was just over £11,000, spent with the expectation that I would keep the car for a few more years... which may yet happen!

No problem Mike, I can understand the lack of appeal in taking on a full restoration, I'm having the build myself up to it!
Good luck with the sale, it does look lovely.

With mixed feelings I can now report that the Appia has gone to a new home.
