Title: Goodwood Trackday Saturday 24 May 2014
Post by: sllim1946 on 17 February, 2014, 08:35:20 PM

After the superb turnout on the track last year I hope that all the trackday stalwarts and those Fulvia owners new to the day as a result of trying it as part of the Fulvia 50 celebrations are going to come out to play again. Please note that the date has now been corrected from 25 as given in VL to 24 May!

It will be the same weekend as last year, so lighter mornings and evenings than if we hold the event earlier plus a better chance for some spring warmth. Once again we will be running cars in groups of eight. On a 96dBA sound limit  day we could run ten cars but the formula of eight really does work, with plenty of empty track available to all plus enough track time available for even the keenest to be well satisfied with the track mileage they can put in.

Full details and entry forms are attached. It does cost a lot to put this event on; over £8 thousand and this is subsidised to an extent by the club so you will not find a cheaper way to enjoy your car around the track that is so special to the Lancia story in Britain.

We trialled half day sessions last year to give Fulvia owners the chance to sample a trackday and also to ensure we could accommodate all entrants. This year we are offering this option again, so a chance to try something new perhaps at a bargain price!

This is a day for all members not just those with specialised modern machines, so come on and fill in you entry form and send it off quick to ensure your entry.

Enjoy Lancia

Brian Mills

Well the first 3 entries are all Betas!!!

So come on Fulvia and Delta owners (and all other models and even other marques) "your model needs you!"

Get the cobwebs off - you and the car??? , give your steed a run now to check all is well and send me your entry.

Enjoy Lancia

I am waiting for your HF to come out of the front of the garage before I get interested!

An update to push this thread to the top again.  Entry form attached to the first entry up the top.  Full and half day slots still available and entries now welcomed from non members on payment of the "day membership" fee of £12 the same as passengers.

"Use it or loose it", to which I'd add "if YOU can't use it bring a friend or two who can".

Here here David!!!

I am down for the whole day - just got the instructions for the day which includes a great map of the circuit and driving guidance.

I have said it before. You do not have to have an out and out racing machine (this was only a small part of Lancia heritage and technology) to appreciate Lancia driving enjoyment. Get your lancia out and come for a great day driving with other Lancia enthusiasts.

If your still thinking about doing the day, maybe you've never done a trackday before.
Heres a link to my photo sets from the last 8 Goodwood Trackday's

Always a great day, no matter what car you own

Absolutely wonderful first time for us at Goodwood. If you haven't tried it have a go next year. There's no pressure to go faster than you and/or your car feel comfortable with. Special mention for Cesare Ferrari who took his Aprilia on the track!

 Her's a few I took.
Hope Brian's problems weren't too disastrous ::)
Lots of smoke but thankfully no fire.
The very nice Flavia Coupe also had problems with spewing oil everywhere under the bonnet which the owner believed was due to oil level too high.
After cleaning up and having to add a drop of oil! it went out again looking and sounding magnificent.

More,
Had a terrible journey down to Goodwood again this year but although there was a lot of traffic at 6-7am I wasn't stuck in traffic like last year, this year it was torrential rain which made it near impossible to see, although 'RainX' helped keep the windscreen clear.
I left early, about 1.30pm and once I hit the A3 just before Guilford the traffic was a nightmare, whenI got to the M25 Junction 10 it was even worse, with stopping and starting right the way around to the M40, while we were treated yet again to torrential rain.
My main concern is once more I've blown the fuse that covers the horn and some of the headlamp functions, again only having main beam with sidelights, the sidelights are incorporated in the outer headlights and still worked, while the headlamp itself isn't?!
I can only assume the water is getting in and shorting out something, as each time this has occurred; on the way back from Italy, on the way back from Bristol, & on the way back from Goodwood, it's been bucketing down, until on the way back from Italy last year, I'd never experienced this problem.
anyone any ideas where would be a good place to start looking and how to overcome the problem? should I clean and vaseline all the terminals, although I won't be able to do so with the point and slip ring at the base of the steering column for the horn.

Puzzled ???

Sorry to see that you have a recurring electrical problem Brian The vaseline route seems a good way to go, would you be able to get a good spray of WD40 or similar on that slip ring? That might help.

One of the most infuriating things about this type of problem is that you cannot check that you have actually dealt with it. There is the ongoing nagging feeling that it still lurks waiting to catch you out!!

Good luck with it.

Thanks Andy,
I've used WD40 inside the distributor before now and on electrical connections, but I hadn't thought to give it a try on the slip ring ::)just need to wait for a dry day now as no room in the garage to work in there.

Brian,

Sorry you had missbehaving electrons but glad you did not need your tow rope ! Thanks very much for the loan- it did it's job well and the Turbo is back in my garage awaiting turbo removal and investigation .

Many thanks again - will hand back at the AGM

We had a great time, but wondered why the car had a slight misfire from time to time during some of the run and got worse on the way home. Noticed the rev counter was underreading a bit while going round the M25 and the car cut out at 80mph when I used the horn a few miles later. No red gen light but all the gauges were reading low. The penny dropped at the same time as the car cut out completely at the Boreham Interchange while in the fast lane with a lot of holiday traffic. Managed to free wheel across 4 lanes to find no hard shoulder, just a storm drain. While waiting for the fourth emergency service I thought I would try to find the problem. Green and black wire had fallen/been pulled of the back of the alternator. Sticking it back on I got the red gen light on the dash. After another 15 mins I removed as much of the ancciliary circuits to see if he battery had recovered enough to crank the car. The answer was yes and we left this very dangerous parking lot and got home without any more misfire and cancelled the AA....

Curious. Needless to say I have secured this wire so it does not do it again.....

Great day - thanks Brian for organising the track event.

Tim, if memory serves me correctly there was a wire clip that clips up behind that block that plugs into the alternator. I think at least on the Bosch alternators.

Many thanks to Brian and Linda Mills and their helpers for another super Lancia day at Goodwood. They even managed to provide some lovely weather! :)

It was great to have the Fanalone out again following the protracted gearbox rebuild. See the Fanalone Thread in the Fulvia section when I get round to updating it. Doesn't seem possible that it was a year to the day that we made it to Fulvia 50th after the 6 month rebuild. However, she ran well and was enormous fun into the bargain.

A picture or two of CUC taken by Jonathan on his Smart Phone. He also took some great video footage but I don't know how to go about posting them. ???

Robin.

That Alfa belongs to a friend I "press ganged" to make up the numbers - anyone got any photos for him?

...and I hardly dare ask but was the day well enough supported to be back next year?

If the Alfa that David is referring to is the Giulietta Sprint 150XUE, then I claim is as one that I encouraged to attend! Hopefully to make up numbers. Sorry I wasn't there.

Don't recollect seeing the Sprint but there was a very nice 75 which I suspect was a V6.

Anyone ELSE know this man?  (and a photo challenge for what and where)

I'm hoping he behaved - last time out at Goodwood (an Alfa day) he got a ticking off.  He sold that car (grey Spider) and bought this so as not to be recognised.

David, The Alfa Gulia or Gulietta (I'm not sure which) was lovely and took me back 40 years. It followed me out onto the track for one session and I hoped that it would come past so that I could get a look at it in action, but it didn't  8)

The second and third pictures are from 1972 when I was rallying a Gulia. I had a couple in succession at that time and a Gulia SS! The green and gold one caught fire near Stroud Glous. on a family holiday writing it off. The holiday too I seem to remember :(

I had one of those too! Mine was a Giulietta 1300 Sprint - see photo. I think Jago's car at Goodwood is a 1600, which I guess makes it a Giulia.

Thanks Neil ! Our can do a gallery (at the moment it produces the news page on the website) , and there is also gallery software that links into the Forum (somehow). They do take up space though and it's not always easy to find them again - this is where the database is good as it tags the photos so they can be searched for.

What a great selection of cars, makes you proud to be a Lancia owner (apart from the fact I love that little Alfa). Great photos - they've given me itchy Goodwood driving fingers - I love the place and the atmosphere of it. Tim - hope you stayed ahead of that Porsche for all 6 laps.

As above, no-one can say we are not an inclusive club. I was puzzled as to what the strange 'people carrier' was behind the Series 1 Fulvia. A further look at Tony's excellent photos revealed it was a modern Fiat Panda! Was it the quickest car round the track? What about that huge Ford pick up truck? Not your usual track day fare!

The sad thing is of course that there were relatively few cars out there on the track. Goodwood is such an iconic event for the Club but only survives via the Committee effectively agreeing to subsidise it. Note to self - must try to go next year. Use it or lose it as the saying goes.

There's an argument that the club wouldn't be what it is without the Goodwood day.

I've enjoyed it as a gathering and as a spectator just as much as when I've been able to participate.

Even not being able to go at all this year I've STILL enjoyed it.

I've enjoyed it as a gathering and as a spectator just as much as when I've been able to participate.

Even not being able to go at all this year I've STILL enjoyed it.

David

Very well put.

Many, many thanks Tony for the photographs, superb! The amount of time and effort you put in to recording our antics at club events is much appreciated.

Robin.

Thanks to Andy D for the passenger ride in the Dedra, I was very impressed with your driving  :D

You're very welcome Tony.  The old Dedra did me proud!

Great pics as always, it is fantastic having such a great photographic record of the day.

Thanks all, always my favorite event of the year to photograph :)
Hopefully I'll be doing the same next year.
