What are those two pipes sticking out from under the front of the car?
I did see those but didn't ask the question (Doh!) obviously air intakes of some sort, I suspect probably to the carbs which seem to have the nozzle part of the air cleaner missing, funnily enough going back to my many years at Vauxhall Motors the 1967 FC VX 4/90 had a similar arrangment, personally I thought they would be great for scooping water up into the engine, so on my VX 4/90 I raised them up higher.
Regarding the overheating, if you look to the left of the radiator in the engine compartment photo you will see an additional small radiator that Bryan has added, I thought at first it was the oil cooler, but he pointed out that's over by the air cleaner. perhaps this is in response to the overheating.
