I was persuaded that I should make one for a friend's grandchildren and so made another for mine. Very time consuming but great fun. Attached is a photo - although I do have to confess it never made it to Alsace. The kids think they are fantastic so if anybody else is tempted it is worth it. I did have to modify the steering and drive slightly to reach Lancia standards. PS in background 1922 Hands. Brian

That is a few steps up from a soap box buggy!!!! And thank you for including the Hands, I had noted that you had one listed, but had no idea what it might look like. Is this a family piece?

Hands is not family as "Hands" is adopted name by my prewar European immigrant father. The Hands was made by GW Hands of Calthorpe connection and was really a purely vanity buy as there are only 2 known for definite in the world (this and one being restored in Australia) although we think there may be one in a Netherlands car museum (lost track of in 1960s). Attached a better view. Brian

I look forward to seeing it on a VSCC Light Car event, where it will be most welcome - and where Joanna will not be the only knitter! Regards, John

What do you do for parts when you own such a rare car? Have them made if necessary?

Luckily not needed parts so far but will need to remake top gear (or may get by with recutting dogs) as jumps out of gear after 15 seconds. Have to drive with left leg cocked over gear stick to keep it engaged! Not fun.

I had a similar problem with my Lambda, but I think I have cured it by beefing up the "indent springs" with washers. Worth looking at the possibility on the Hands, I would think. Regards, John
